Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency which is an education not-for-profit website that explores representations of women in popular stories of culture. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular media. Additionally, she works to raise awareness of online harassment directed at women, and other marginalized groups of people. With a master's in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Feminist Frequency was launched in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian, an undergraduate student at York University who had been fascinated by issues that concern gender and feminism since a long time. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop a series of web videos which would explore how gender is represented in video games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position in her role as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit educational organization studies women's roles within the popular culture stories.
