Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946, into a low-income family, with twelve kids eventually included, discovered early that she could escape the hardships of her life by using a creative mind. Prior to learning how to write or read she wrote her own music. After 8 years of age, she had her very first guitar. When she was 11 years old she started singing on Knoxville Tenn's radio station. The same year she released her first recording on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. The singer established a name for herself locally while still at high school, but dreamed of a bigger stage. In the exact day that she graduated high school, it was 1964. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner began looking for new female vocalists for his syndicated television program at approximately the exact time. Parton took the job in the year 1966. She joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in the year 1969. The band split in 1974, when her solo hits like Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton wrote "I Will Always Love You" to Wagoner just after the pair split. It hit number. #1 for the first time in 1974.
